Text Box: Completed July, 2008 - This is a 2,340 square foot master on the main plan with 2 full bedrooms and baths upstairs and a 1,500 square foot unfinished basement. This is a Berg Mountain Homes original design.
The first highlight here is certainly the inviting tongue and groove ceiling entry porch with stone steps and columns as well as the shingle accent above the red door. This house has fiber cement lap siding as well as fiber cement shingles in the right and left gable ends. This product (sometimes known by the brand name Hardi -board) is super durable, takes paint extremely well (I’d say 10 years before recoating) and it doesn’t expand and contract like wood which prevents moisture problems. And even up close, it looks very nearly like real wood.
Another high point for this home is the huge full wrap around covered porch. At 1,200 additional square feet of decking, this adds tons of outdoor living space. Of course, the home could easily be designed with only a partial covered porch and be very functional. Although you can’t see it in the pictures, all Berg Mountain Home decks are screwed down rather than nailed and no posts or other house components sit on top of our deck boards (for easy replacing later). Also, all our top handrails are mortised into the posts on either side to prevent twisting.
The great room in this house has a beautiful vaulted natural color tongue and groove wood ceiling with a grand full ceiling height fireplace with a rounded hearth and built-in stone mantle. It’s one of the prettiest fireplaces we’ve built. An open loft with wrought iron balusters overlooks the great room. Of course, there’s a tall view-side wall of windows and a gorgeous knotty cherry kitchen.
